Who Am I? Live Out Loud

LOLGala2018-Save-the-DateTomorrow night I’m attending the 17th Annual Young Trailblazers Gala for Live Out Loud. It is being held at the The Times Center in NYC. Live Out Loud is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and empowering LGBTQ youth by connecting them with successful LGBTQ professionals in their community.

I was honored to be asked to be a part of the Development Committee this year and I happily agreed. I know the founder’s brother Stephen and his brother Leo asked me to help. Volunteering for a cause, for the one event, was a great experience. We are all so busy however when you need to find the space and time to make a difference, you can!

I attended last year’s event and I remember how much fun the Silent Auction was so that was my focus. It’s a great way to donate for an event –quietly bidding for something you want to take home! I want to thank Diana, Mick and Robin, Stephanie, Helene, Mitus, Jordana and Roberto for their support and generous gifts.

Teens have to face so much as they transition from a child to a young adult. It is a powerful time of change, physically and mentally. And being LGBTQ+Trans adds to the ultimate question: Who Am I? A question, I myself quietly and painfully struggled with…when my music career first began.

When we focus on the positive we lessen the power of the negative. Here’s the link to give a gift, any size, any time.

The Sounds Outside the City

kittyWhat I love most about being outside the city, either in rural areas or suburbia, is the sound of people working on their homes. The lawn being mowed, the leaves being blown, single hammers rhythmically aiming for that head of the nail, sprinklers buzzing and twirling, and a stray cat puss-n-boots with mittens and all, showing up at the door, speaking cat-language, and actually thinking you know what she is saying.  The sound of her munching on some left over salmon and you realize you have a friend for life. Your home is most often your largest personal financial investment in your life. Take care of it. I love being home.

Celebrating Single

In a world where pairs seem to capture much of the celebration – from engagements, to weddings to anniversaries, I am celebrating single today 3/31. The word, the intent, the content of one. Single: consisting of a separate unique whole individual and being an individual or existing as an indivisible whole. An indivisible whole…very appetizing.

No matter what your relationship status, you are still one single person.

Uncertainty

boats 4  Some people cannot handle not knowing what life will look like from year to year, month to month. They need to have it all planned out. From holidays to birthdays to vacations, to budgets –for them, 2018 has been planned out since January 15, 2017.

Others, play it more week to week, even day to day, with a spontaneity of go — with the flow.

Having lived more in the second option a majority of my life, and now looking to exist more in the realm of the first option, whenever possible,  I find myself struggling with the difference in the mindset between the two and battling who gets the middle. The center. Holy mackerel!

Today, I come to realize, as I lose people in my life for various reasons, including death and differences, I am at a resolve. For today.  What I have the power to control and plan, I will embrace that certainty with experience.  And what is unexpected, unprecedented, and unrehearsed…well that uncertainty is what puts us all —basically and realistically, in the same boat. I will row, swim, paddle — I will not sink. Not today.

a few others in the crowd

And maybe next time — let’s discuss Amazon selling my used CD’s SELF for what I consider a baffling amount…and how are they still getting and selling New ones? An early indie artist in 1997 we made maybe 500 to sell and they sold out within a year? That really baffles me…New Self CD’s.

Remembering Dolores O’Riordan & THE PASS

I don’t remember the year however I remember the scene vividly. I was at Griffith Park park in Los Angeles with my friend Helen and my dog Ceasar, a handsome sheltie dog and he was playing and running around and he got very close to a few people sitting down near us. I yelled out to him to come back to me, and then the woman in the crowd spoke out with a very melodic heavy Irish accent –  “Ceasar, Ceasar.” She then said, “He is lovely!” As he ran back to us my friend said in a very docile tone, “That’s the lead singer from The Cranberries.” I heard her voice from that day on,  and often times mimicked it when calling my boy! So for me, Dolores O’Riordan was much more than just a great pop voice,  she was one of the most distinct voices I ever heard call out my dear companion’s name, “Ceasar, Ceasar”. I can hear her today…still.

ThePass_London_logoOn another note, I am starting to introduce THE PASS to a few key people in London. So far, so good…more to follow as the story continues.  Fall/winter 2018! If you can dream it, you can do it!
